- student responsibilities — students are required to attend lessons with all necessary materials and practice daily between lessons. I additionally request that students keep their fingernails trimmed—the nail should not extend beyond the end of the finger—and to have clean hands before each lesson.
- parental involvement — when teaching children and teens, I see parents as partners in helping the student become a happy, well-rounded musician. I would appreciate your help in ensuring the student is practicing regularly and I appreciate regular feedback about the student’s experience outside of my studio.
- the piano — the student must have available to them a piano or full-sized (88-key) kdigital keyboard, along with a damper (sustain) pedal, weighted and touch-sensitive keys, and a bench of the appropriate height. I can make recommendations if you need assistance. The piano should be accessible once a day in order to meet assigned practice times. An acoustic piano should be tuned once a year, and I can recommend a tuner if you’d like.
- supplies — for beginning students, I will purchase the first book and notebook for their first lesson, and I will present you receipts for reimbursement with your first payment. As time goes on, you may need to make additional purchases such as a metronome. I recommend that students have a bag specifically for their supplies which is kept next to their piano or keyboard.
- workshops and recitals — I hold annual workshops in December in order to prepare students for recitals in late Spring or early Summer.
- workshops are generally based around a theme, including the first workshop which is based on stage fright management and later workshops including with acclaimed expert concert pianists
- group recitals are for beginner and intermediate students to play with a group of performers, usually one to two pieces each
- individual recitals are for intermediate and advanced students, in which they are the solo artist
- fees are due by the first lesson of each month, covering that month. Monthly fees cover all weekly lessons regardless of how many weeks there are in a month. I accept Zelle and Venmo and recommend setting up autopay/scheduling recurring payments.
- $160 per month for weekly, 30-minute lessons
- $240 per month for weekly, 45-minute lessons
- $320 per month for weekly, 1-hour lessons
- missed lessons do happen, but if they’re foreseeable I request that you contact me as soon as possible. I can usually provide make-up lessons, or, if two or more lessons in a row are missed, you will not be charged for lessons.
- the studio will be closed Thanksgiving and the week of Christmas Day, with a brief vacation every few years. If you plan on vacationing. I would appreciate you letting me know in advance
